Make technology
useful for
your law firm.
Practical support for the way legal teams really work.
Law first.
Technology made useful.
Technology is only useful when you understand the people, work and problems itโs supposed to help.
Hey Legal is led by Ally Thomson, combining more than 25 yearsโ experience in the legal sector with legal technology education, consultancy and a strong interest in finding better ways for lawyers to work and learn.
The approach is simple: understand the problem first, then work out whether โ and how โ technology can help.

Independent advice
Hey Legal doesnโt sell software or take commissions from technology vendors. Recommendations start with whatโs right for your firm.

You probably donโt need more technology.
You might need to get more from what you already have.
You might need to simplify a process thatโs become unnecessarily complicated.
You might need to understand where AI could genuinely help.
Or you might need something new.
The important thing is not to start with the technology.
Start with the problem.
Look at how the work happens. Find the friction. Understand what people actually need.
Then decide whether technology belongs in the answer.
Thatโs how Hey Legal works.

Questions before we talk.
Do we need to be particularly tech-savvy?
Not at all. In fact, you don't need to know much about technology before we start. You know your firm and how it works. Hey Legal brings the technology perspective. We'll work out the rest together.
We've already invested in technology. Can you still help?
Absolutely. New software isn't always the answer. Often there's much more value to be found in using existing systems better, joining things up or changing the way a process works.
Will this create more work for our team?
The point is to make work easier, not create another project for everyone to manage. Some change will always require involvement from your team, but we'll keep it proportionate and focus on improvements that are realistic for a busy firm.
Is this all about AI?
No. AI is important, but it's only one part of the picture. Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from automation, an existing feature in your practice management system, a better process โ or no new technology at all.
Is this suitable for small firms?
Especially so. Hey Legal's consultancy work is designed around smaller firms that don't have internal innovation teams or large technology departments. The approach is practical, proportionate and built around the resources you actually have.
Do you recommend specific software?
Where it's useful, yes. But Hey Legal doesn't sell software and is independent. We'll first work out what you actually need and then look at the options that fit.
Can we start small?
Please do. You don't need a transformation programme. Starting with one problem, one process or one team is often the best way to make meaningful progress.

You donโt have to figure it all out on your own.
You donโt need a technology strategy before we talk.
Tell me whatโs frustrating you, what youโd like to improve, or simply what youโre unsure about.
Weโll work out a sensible next step from there.
